Mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) including famous catenanes show switchable physical properties and attract continuous research interest due to their potential application in molecular devices. The advantages of using spin crossover (SCO) materials here are enormous, allowing for control through diverse stimuli and highly specific functions, and enabling the transfer of the internal dynamics of MIMs from solution to solid state, leading to macroscopic applications. Herein, we report the efficient self-assembly of catenated metal-organic frameworks (termed catena-MOFs) induced by stacking interactions, through the combination of rationally selected flexible and conjugated naphthalene diimide-based bis-pyridyl ligand (BPND), [MI(CN)2]- (M = Ag or Au) and Fe2+ in a one-step strategy. The obtained bimetallic Hofmann-type SCO-MOFs [FeII(BPND){Ag(CN)2}2]·3CHCl3 (1Ag) and [FeII(BPND{Au(CN)2}2]·2CHCl3·2H2O (1Au) possess a unique three-dimensional (3D) catena-MOF constructed from the polycatenation of two-dimensional (2D) layers with hxl topology. Both complexes undergo thermal- and light-induced SCO. Significantly, abnormal increases in the maximum emission intensity and dielectric constant can be detected simultaneously with the switching of spin states. This research opens up SCO-actuated bistable MIMs that afford dual functionality of coupled fluorescence emission and dielectricity.

BACKGROUND: For many years it has been postulated that the immune system controls the progress of multiple myeloma (MM). However, the phenotypes of T cells in MM remain to be elucidated. In this study, we compared the phenotypes of T cells, which were obtained from the peripheral blood, in MM patients with those in healthy donors (HD). The expression of CCR7, CD57, CD28, HLA-DR, CD38, CD45RA, and CD45RO were assessed on T cells from MM patients and HDs using multicolor flow cytometry (MFC). METHODS: For this study, 17 newly diagnosed MM patients were selected, and 20 healthy people were selected as a control group. MFC was used to detect the markers on T cells. RESULTS: We detected significant increases in the expression levels of HLA-DR, CD38, and CD57on CD8+ T cells, significant decreases in the expression levels of CD28 and CD45RA on CD8+ T cells, and a decrease of CD4+ effec-tor T cells in MM patients, compared to the HD group. CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that the accumulation of peripheral CD8+CD57+T cells, CD8+CD38high T cells, and CD8+HLA-DR+CD38high T cells is reflective of an ongoing antitumor T cell response and a progressive immune dysfunction in MM. During chemotherapy, the recovery of immune function can be monitored by detecting the proportion of activated molecules of T lymphocytes.

Two new triterpenes mayteneri A (1), mayteneri B (2), and seven known compounds (3-9) were isolated from stems of Maytenus hookeri Loes. The chemical structures of compounds 1 and 2 were established by 1D, 2D NMR, HRESIMS analysis, and calculating electronic circular dichroism (ECD). The structures of known compounds 3-9 were determined by comparison of their spectral with those reported. Compounds 4-7 showed significant inhibitory activity for NLRP3 inflammasome, with the IC50 values of 2.36-3.44 µM.

OBJECT: This study aimed to analyse the risk factors and prognosis of sepsis complicated with acute kidney injury (AKI). METHODS: The clinical data of 324 patients with sepsis in the nephrology department of our hospital from January 2022 to January 2023 were collected. A total of 188 patients with AKI were the occurrence group, and 136 patients without AKI were the non-occurrence group. The influencing factors and prognosis of sepsis complicated with AKI were analysed. RESULTS: We observed significant differences in Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II), total length of hospital stay, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay, mechanical ventilation support, diabetes mellitus and urine volume >1500 mL between the two groups (p < 0.05). After a follow-up period of 1 month, 125 (66.49%) of 188 patients with sepsis complicated with AKI died, and 63 (33.51%) survived. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA), APACHE II, mechanical ventilation support, diabetes, urine volume >1500 mL and serum creatinine were independent risk factors of sepsis complicated with AKI (p < 0.05). Moreover, SOFA, APACHE II, ICU admission days, mechanical ventilation support, serum creatinine and non-continuous renal replacement therapy were independent risk factors of death in patients with sepsis complicated with AKI (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: SOFA, APACHE II, ICU admission days, mechanical ventilation support, serum creatinine and non-continuous renal replacement therapy may be the influencing factors leading to death in patients with sepsis complicated with AKI. Early clinical intervention should be performed.

Excellent electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction activity has been demonstrated by transition metals and nitrogen-codoped carbon (M-N-C) catalysts, especially for transition-metal porphyrin (MTPP)-based catalysts. In this work, we propose to use one-step low-temperature pyrolysis of the isostructural MTPP-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and electrochemical in situ reduction strategies to obtain a series of hybrid catalysts of Co nanoparticles (Co NPs) and MTPP, named Co NPs/MTPP (M = Fe, Co, and Ni). The in situ introduction of Co NPs can efficiently enhance the electrocatalytic ability of MTPP (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) to convert CO2 to CO, particularly for FeTPP. Co NPs/FeTPP endowed a high CO faradaic efficiency (FECOmax = 95.5%) in the H cell, and the FECO > 90.0% is in the broad potential range of -0.72 to -1.22 VRHE. In addition, the Co NPs/FeTPP achieved 145.4 mA cm-2 at a lower potential of -0.70 VRHE with an FECO of 94.7%, and the CO partial currents increased quickly to reach 202.2 mA cm-2 at -0.80 VRHE with an FECO of 91.6% in the flow cell. It is confirmed that Co NPs are necessary for hybrid catalysts to get superior electrocatalytic activity; Co NPs also can accelerate H2O dissociation and boost the proton supply capacity to hasten the proton-coupled electron-transfer process, effectively adjusting the adsorption strength of the reaction intermediates.

Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy of microwave ablation in the colorectal cancer with simultaneously multiple liver metastases that was initially evaluated as potentially resectable. Methods The patients with potentially resectable colorectal cancer with simultaneous multiple liver metastases treated in the Department of General Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University,the Center of Minimally Invasive Therapy in Oncology of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine,and the Second Department of General Surgery in the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University from October 1,2018 to October 1,2020 were selected in this study.The general data,pathological features,treatment methods,and clinical efficacy of the patients were collected.According to the treatment methods,the patients were assigned into a surgical resection group(conversion therapy+laparoscopic primary resection+hepatectomy)and a microwave ablation group(conversion therapy+laparoscopic primary resection+microwave ablation).The surgical indicators(operation duration,time to first postoperative anal exhaust,hospital stay,etc.)and postoperative complications(anastomotic stenosis,anastomotic hemorrhage,incision infection,etc.)were compared between the two groups.The survival period was followed up,including the overall survival period and disease-free survival period,and the survival curves were drawn to analyze the clinical efficacy of the two treatment regimens. Results A total of 198 patients with potentially resectable colorectal cancer with simultaneous multiple liver metastases were included in this study.Sixty-six patients were cured by neoadjuvant chemotherapy(FOLFOX or FOLFIRI),including 30 patients in the surgical resection group and 36 patients in the microwave ablation group(with 57 tumors ablated).After the first ablation,54(94.74%)tumors achieved complete ablation,and all of them reached no evidence of disease status after re-ablation.The microwave ablation group had shorter operation duration,less intraoperative blood loss,shorter time to first postoperative anal exhaust,shorter time of taking a liquid diet,shorter hospital stay,and lower hospitalization cost than the surgical resection group(all P<0.001).In addition,the microwave ablation group had lower visual analogue scale score(P<0.001)than the surgical resection group.The incidences of complications such as incision infection(P=0.740),anastomotic fistula(P=1.000),and anastomotic stenosis(P=1.000),the overall survival period(P=0.191),and the disease-free survival period(P=0.934)showed no significant differences between the two groups. Conclusions For patients with colorectal cancer with simultaneous multiple liver metastases initially assessed as potentially resectable,laparoscopic primary resection+surgical resection/microwave ablation after conversion therapy was safe,effective,and had similar survival outcomes.Microwave ablation outperformed surgical resection in postoperative recovery,economy,and tolerability,being worthy of clinical promotion.

OBJECTIVE: Although low-dose computed tomography has been proven effective to reduce lung cancer-specific mortality, a considerable proportion of surgically resected high-risk lung nodules were still confirmed pathologically benign. There is an unmet need of a novel method for malignancy classification in lung nodules. METHODS: We recruited 307 patients with high-risk lung nodules who underwent curative surgery, and 247 and 60 cases were pathologically confirmed malignant and benign lung lesions, respectively. Plasma samples from each patient were collected before surgery and performed low-depth (5×) whole-genome sequencing. We extracted cell-free DNA (cfDNA) characteristics and determined radiomic features. We built models to classify the malignancy using our data and further validated models with two independent lung nodule cohorts. RESULTS: Our models using one type of profile were able to distinguish lung cancer and benign lung nodules (BLNs) at an area under the curve (AUC) metrics of 0.69-0.91 in the study cohort. Integrating all the five base models using cfDNA profiles, the cfDNA-based ensemble model achieved an AUC of 0.95 (95%CI: 0.92-0.97) in the study cohort and 0.98 (95%CI: 0.96-1.00) in the validation cohort. At a specificity of 95.0%, the sensitivity reached 80.0% in the study cohort. With the same threshold, the specificity and sensitivity had similar performances in both validation cohorts. Furthermore, the performance of AUC reached 0.97 both in the study and validation cohorts when considering the radiomic profile. CONCLUSIONS: The cfDNA profiles-based method is an efficient non-invasive tool to distinguish malignancies and high-risk but pathologically BLNs.

Our recent multi-omics studies have revealed rich sources of novel bioactive proteins and polypeptides from marine organisms including cnidarians. In the present study, we initially conducted a transcriptomic analysis to review the composition profile of polypeptides from Zoanthus sociatus. Then, a newly discovered NPY-like polypeptide-ZoaNPY was selected for further in silico structural, binding and virtually pharmacological studies. To evaluate the pro-angiogenic effects of ZoaNPY, we employed an in vitro HUVECs model and an in vivo zebrafish model. Our results indicate that ZoaNPY, at 1-100 pmol, enhances cell survival, migration and tube formation in the endothelial cells. Besides, treatment with ZoaNPY could restore a chemically-induced vascular insufficiency in zebrafish embryos. Western blot results demonstrated the application of ZoaNPY could increase the phosphorylation of proteins related to angiogenesis signaling including PKC, PLC, FAK, Src, Akt, mTOR, MEK, and ERK1/2. Furthermore, through molecular docking and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) verification, ZoaNPY was shown to directly and physically interact with NPY Y2 receptor. In view of this, all evidence showed that the pro-angiogenic effects of ZoaNPY involve the activation of NPY Y2 receptor, thereby activating the Akt/mTOR, PLC/PKC, ERK/MEK and Src- FAK-dependent signaling pathways. Furthermore, in an excision wound model, the treatment with ZoaNPY was shown to accelerate the wound healing process in mice. Our findings provide new insights into the discovery and development of novel pro-angiogenic drugs derived from NPY-like polypeptides in the future.

The emergence of a bilayer B48 cluster, which has been both theoretically predicted and experimentally observed, as well as the recent experimental synthesis of bilayer borophene sheets on Ag and Cu surfaces, has generated tremendous curiosity in the bilayer structures of boron clusters. However, the connection between bilayer boron cluster and bilayer borophene remains unknown. By combining a genetic algorithm and density functional theory calculations, a global search for the low-energy structures of the B63 cluster was conducted, revealing that the Cs bilayer structure with three interlayer B-B bonds is the most stable bilayer structure. This structure was further examined in terms of its structural stability, chemical bonding, and aromaticity. Interestingly, the interlayer bonds induce strong electronegativity and robust aromaticity. Furthermore, the dual aromaticity stems from diatropic currents originating from virtual translational transitions for both σ and π electrons. This unprecedent bilayer boron cluster is anticipated to enrich the concept of dual aromaticity and serve as a potential precursor for bilayer borophene.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we provide the largest analysis to date of a US-based cancer cohort to characterize death from COVID-19. METHODS: A total of 4,020,669 patients across 15 subtypes living with cancer in 2020 and included in the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were abstracted. We investigated prognostic factors for death due to COVID-19 using a cox proportional hazards model and calculated hazard ratios (HRs). Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) were calculated using observed mortality counts from SEER and expected mortality based on U.S. mortality rates. RESULTS: 291,323 patients died, with 14,821 (5.1%) deaths attributed to COVID-19 infection. The COVID-19 disease-specific mortality rate was 11.81/10,000-persons years, and SMR of COVID-19 was 2.30 (95% CI: 2.26-2.34, p < .0001). COVID-19 ranked as the second leading cause of death following ischemic heart disease (5.2%) among 26 non-cancer causes of death. Patients who are older (80+ vs < =49 years old: HR 21.47, 95% CI: 19.34-23.83), male (vs female: HR 1.46, 95% CI: 1.40-1.51), unmarried (vs married: HR 1.47, 95% CI: 1.42-1.53), and Hispanic or Non-Hispanic African American (vs Non-Hispanic White: HR 2.04, 95% CI: 1.94-2.14 and HR 2.03, 95% CI: 1.94-2.14, respectively) were at greatest risk of COVID-19 mortality. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: We observed that people living with cancer are at two times greater risk of dying from COVID-19 compared to the general US population. This work may be used by physicians and public health officials in the creation of survivorship programs that mitigate the risk of COVID-19 mortality.

With the development of synchrotron radiation sources and high-frame-rate detectors, the amount of experimental data collected at synchrotron radiation beamlines has increased exponentially. As a result, data processing for synchrotron radiation experiments has entered the era of big data. It is becoming increasingly important for beamlines to have the capability to process large-scale data in parallel to keep up with the rapid growth of data. Currently, there is no set of data processing solutions based on the big data technology framework for beamlines. Apache Hadoop is a widely used distributed system architecture for solving the problem of massive data storage and computation. This paper presents a set of distributed data processing schemes for beamlines with experimental data using Hadoop. The Hadoop Distributed File System is utilized as the distributed file storage system, and Hadoop YARN serves as the resource scheduler for the distributed computing cluster. A distributed data processing pipeline that can carry out massively parallel computation is designed and developed using Hadoop Spark. The entire data processing platform adopts a distributed microservice architecture, which makes the system easy to expand, reduces module coupling and improves reliability.

Superoxide anion (O2·-) and peroxynitrite (ONOO-), two important oxidants under oxidative stress, coexist in complex cell and organism systems, playing crucial roles in various physiological and pathological processes, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases. Despite the absence of robust molecular tools capable of simultaneously visualizing O2·- and ONOO- in biosystems, the relationship between these two species remains understudied. Herein, we present sequentially activated fluorescent probe, DHX-SP, which exhibits exceptional selectivity and sensitivity toward O2·- and ONOO-. This probe enables precise imaging of these species in living PC12 cells under oxidative stress conditions using distinct fluorescence signal combinations. Furthermore, the probe DHX-SP has the ability to visualize changes in O2·- and ONOO- levels during ferroptosis of PC12 cells and in the Parkinson's disease model. These findings establish a connection between the crosstalk of the phosphorus group of O2·- and ONOO- in PC12 cells under oxidative stress.

The extensive soft-tissue defects resulting from trauma and tumors pose a prevalent challenge in clinical practice, characterized by a high incidence rate. Autologous tissue flap transplantation, considered the gold standard for treatment, is associated with various drawbacks, including the sacrifice of donor sources, postoperative complications, and limitations in surgical techniques, thereby impeding its widespread applicability. The emergence of tissue-engineered skin flaps, notably the acellular adipose flap (AAF), offers potential alternative solutions. However, a critical concern confronting large-scale tissue-engineered skin flaps currently revolves around the reendothelialization of internal vascular networks. In our study, we have developed an AAF utilizing perfusion decellularization, demonstrating excellent physical properties. Cytocompatibility experiments have confirmed its cellular safety, and cell adhesion experiments have revealed spatial specificity in facilitating endothelial cells adhesion within the adipose flap scaffold. Using a novel mimetic physiological fluid shear stress setting, endothelial cells were dynamically inoculated and cultured within the acellular vascular network of the pedicled AAF in our research. Histological and gene expression analyses have shown that the mimetic physiological fluid dynamic model significantly enhanced the reendothelialization of the AAF. This innovative platform of acellular adipose biomaterials combined with hydrodynamics may offer valuable insights for the design and manufacturing of 3D vascularized tissue constructs, which can be applied to the repair of extensive soft-tissue defects.

This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the effects of evidence-based nursing (EBN) intervention on wound infection and postoperative complications in patients after appendectomy for acute appendicitis (AA), with the expectation of providing a theoretical basis for postoperative care in AA. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the postoperative application of EBN in patients with AA were searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, China Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure from the inception of databases to October 2023. Two authors screened and evaluated the literature based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and data were extracted from the final included literature. Stata software (version 17.0) was employed for data analysis. In total, 29 RCTs involving 2848 patients with AA were included, with 1424 in the EBN group and 1424 in the conventional care group. The analyses revealed that patients with AA who experienced EBN were significantly less likely to develop postoperative wound infections (odds ratio [OR] = 0.23, 95% confidence intervals [CIs]: 0.14-0.38, p < 0.001) and postoperative complications (OR = 0.20, 95% CI: 0.15-0.26, p < 0.001) as opposed to conventional care. Available evidence suggests that EBN can effectively reduce the risk of wound infection and postoperative complications in patients undergoing appendectomy for AA, thereby improving patient prognosis. This finding is worth promoting in the clinical practice.

Objective: This study aims to develop and validate a suitable scale for assessing the level of nurses' knowledge and practice of perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation. Methods: We divided the study into two phases: scale development and validation. In Phase 1, the initial items were generated through a literature review. In Phase 2, a cross-sectional survey was conducted involving 603 thoracic nurses to evaluate the scale's validity, reliability, and difficulty and differentiation of items. Item and exploratory factor analyses were performed for item reduction. Thereafter, their validity, reliability, difficulty, and differentiation of items were assessed using Cronbach's α coefficient, retest reliability, content validity, and item response theory (IRT). Results: The final questionnaire comprised 34 items, and exploratory factor analysis revealed 3 common dimensions with internal consistency coefficients of 0.950, 0.959, and 0.965. The overall internal consistency of the scale was 0.966, with a split-half reliability of 0.779 and a retest reliability Pearson's correlation coefficient of 0.936. The content validity of the scale was excellent (item-level content validity index = 0.875-1.000, scale-level content validity index = 0.978). The difficulty and differentiation of item response theory were all verified to a certain extent (average value = 2.391; threshold ß values = -1.393-0.820). Conclusions: The knowledge-attitudes-practices questionnaire for nurses can be used as a tool to evaluate knowledge, attitudes, and practices among nurses regarding perioperative pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with lung cancer.

Conventional luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) usually only have the ability to absorb solar energy and convert it to electricity but are not able to regulate the transmitted light. Herein, a multistate thermoresponsive smart window (SW) based on LSC has been fabricated, in which the stimuli-responsive host layer consists of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and ethylene glycol solution (EGS) microdroplets stacking with LSC layer-based on near-infrared (NIR) CuInSe2-xSx/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs) and PDMS matrix. As-synthesized CISSe/ZnS QDs with broad NIR absorption in LSC exhibit controllable emission spectra over 833-1088 nm and high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield from 45 to 83%. Coupling with Si solar cells as a reference, optimized LSC-SW devices with dimensions of 5 × 5 × 0.9 cm3 exhibit higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.19-1.36% with increased temperature from 0 to 50 °C than those of sole LSC and SW devices. The corresponding visible light transmissions are regulated from 75.1 to 48.1% accordingly. The improvement of PCEs in an opaque state is mainly due to enhanced absorption of QDs originating from rescattered photons from the EGS/PDMS layer, leading to more emitted photons reaching photovoltaics. This work is expected to bring up new opportunities for applications in greenhouses, building facades, and energy-efficient smart windows.

The explosive growth of the logistics industry has led to an increase in energy consumption and carbon emissions. To reduce emissions and increase the efficiency of the logistics industry, we studied the driving factors and decoupling effects of carbon emissions of logistics industry (LICE). First, an energy coefficient method is used to calculate the LICE. Second, the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition method is used to decompose the driving factors of LICE into five types. Third, the decoupling model is used to explore the decoupling relationship between economic growth and LICE. Considering Anhui Province as an example, this study describes the method's implementation process based on a comparison of the four Yangtze River Delta provinces and cities. The results indicate that the growth rate of LICE in Anhui Province has decreased during the research period, from 9.7% in 2013 to 2.1% in 2021; however, the Tapio decoupling elasticity has been approximately 0.4 for the last 2 years, remaining in a weak decoupling stage from economic development. The LMDI decomposition results indicate that the average contribution of economic level to carbon emissions is 1.763. This study proposes some solutions and recommendations for the logistics industry's low-carbon development to offer methodological and theoretical support for LICE research.

Hepatitis C remains a global health problem, especially in poverty-stricken areas. A rapid and sensitive point-of-care (POC) diagnostic tool is critical for the early detection and timely treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Here, for the first time, we reported a novel molecular diagnostic assay, termed reverse transcription multiple cross displacement amplification integrated with a gold-nanoparticle-based lateral flow biosensor (RT-MCDA-AuNPs-LFB), which was developed for rapid, sensitive, specific, and visual identification of HCV. HCV-RT-MCDA induced rapid isothermal amplification through a specific primer set targeting the 5'untranslated region gene from the major HCV genotypes 1b, 2a, 3b, 6a, and 3a that are prevalent in China. The optimal reaction temperature and time for RT-MCDA-AuNPs-LFB were 68°C and 25 min, respectively. The limit of detection of the assay was 10 copies per test, and the specificity was 100% for the experimental strains. The whole detection procedure, including crude nucleic acid isolation (~5 min), RT-MCDA (68°C, 25 min), and visual AuNPs-LFB result confirmation (less than 2 min), was performed within 35 min. The preliminary results indicated that the HCV-RT-MCDA-AuNPs-LFB assay could be a valuable tool for sensitive, specific, visual, cost-saving, and rapid detection of HCV and has potential as a POC diagnostic platform for field screening and early clinical detection of HCV infection.

AIMS: This scoping review was conducted to provide a comprehensive summary of how electroencephalogram (EEG) and event-related potentials (ERPs) have been used in nursing research, with the goal of mapping the themes and methods of nursing research involving EEGs or ERPs as a measurement tool. METHODS: The eligibility criteria were determined according to the Population, Concept, and Context principle. A systematic electronic search of articles in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, APA PsycInfo, and Scopus databases was carried out for the period from database establishment to November 21, 2022. The included studies were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. RESULTS: The review process culminated in 45 articles, evidencing an increasing trend and dispersion characteristics of EEG in nursing research and reflecting five thematic domains of inquiry related to nursing. There was a deficiency of detailed reports of EEG recording and data analysis parameters in nursing research. The common EEG bands in nursing research were Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, Gamma. The ERP components used frequently were P3, P2, N1, N2, P1, N170, and feedback-related negativity. CONCLUSIONS: The wide variety of EEG components used show broad potential for studying nursing questions. In the future, it will be necessary to increase the depth of the research content, the repeatability of the experiment and the standardization of the report. Nursing researchers should give full play to the characteristics of nursing and establish a systematic and complete EEG research system for nursing.
